Torture of Ethiopian Maids in the Islamic World-Dr.Suryaraju Mattimalla

I would like to highlight the vulnerability of African maids in general and Ethiopian maids [i] in particular [ii] and their torture [iii] stories; rape [iv], killing [v], violence [vi], acid attacks, racist [vii], 22 hours of work, cheating salaries, hell [viii], and physical and psychological torture of them in the hands of Muslims in the Middle East [ix] and North Africa.

I met hundreds of Ethiopian maids in the Tigray and Amhara regions, irrespective of their ethnic communities, between 2016 and 2021. They have the same stories of brutal torture [x] by their Muslim female masters in the Arab world.

My Ethiopian maid's personal experiences at the hands of Muslim women and their children and husband are my inspiration to write this paper.

Generally, the world makes us believe that only Muslim men are brutal, so Muslim women and female children are victims of Muslim men's brutality, but the stories of African maids in general and Ethiopian maids in particular, in particular, would change your opinion about burqa-wearing Muslim girls and women and their unbearable cruelties against African Christian maids in the Muslim world [xi].

I do know the personal stories of Indian maids in the Arab world, but those Indian maids are Muslims. Hence, violence against them is minimized based on their skin color and religion.

Indian Muslim maids face minimum violence from Arab women, whereas African Christian maids are vulnerable to the highest brutality of Muslim women in the MENA region.

The Indian Muslim maids have never revealed their human status at the hands of their Arab masters, so I assume that they have never faced any religious or racial violence since they compromised with Muslim men in terms of fulfilling sexual desires. So there is no question of sexual assault or killing or raping or brutality against them since they had compromised with their masters.

They do not even know what self-respect, dignity, or human status mean. If a human being can’t understand what humiliation means, she or he can’t claim human status or self-respect since they do not feel their degraded status in any society. The claims for the self-respect of dignity or humiliation can be made when they feel they have been humiliated or tortured or brutally oppressed or insulted or excluded or attacked or raped or killed ontologically.

On the contrary, African or Ethiopian maids are well-aware of their human status, rights, self-respect, dignity, humiliation or exclusion, brutal torture, violence, rape, and gang violence in Muslim households.

One of the Tigray Orthodox Christian maids in the Arab world told me that every Muslim calls them "Negro" "Dirty Face" "Prostitute" "Criminal" "Poor" "Smell" "Ugly" "Beggar" "Monkey" "Black" "Pig" "Unclean" "Impure" "low life".

She, like any Ethiopian, informed me that these are their names throughout their servility. They are aware of what they are losing at the hands of Muslims. They knew that they had lost human status. They knew that they were raped, tortured, humiliated, degraded, excluded, brutally tortured, and killed. Many told me that most Ethiopian maids are killed by their Muslim masters for asking for their salaries.

They also told me that Muslim children, women, elderly people, and burqa-wearing women enjoy and laugh when they see them physically torturing African maids in front of their eyes. They told me that every Muslim enjoys violence against African maids. Some of them showed me wounds on their bodies. They are ontologically hurt, wounded, and dead.

She told me that this is deep-rooted phenomenon of every Muslim against her African Christian maids in the Muslim world. She claimed that after working in Arabic, she had forgotten her real name. She, like any other African or Ethiopian maid, was physically and mentally tortured by her Muslim women and men.

Every Ethiopian maid told me the same stories of brutal torture by Muslims. How many crimes against humanity are taking place against African maids in Muslim households? How many international laws are challenged, brutally raped, violated, and broken by Muslim masters against African maids? World is silent since they are an African community. How much venom do they unleash on African maids? I have never come across any Muslim human rights activist, scholar, or writer speaking the truth. They are all paper tigers, as per the words of Ethiopian maids.

The issue here is that Ethiopian Christian maids refuse to sleep with their Muslim masters, so rape occurs with the brutal force of violence from their Muslim women. I contacted and interviewed hundreds of Ethiopian Christian maids to learn about their lived experiences in the Islamic world.

They told me that sexual relationships between fathers and daughters [xii], [xiii],[xiv]and brothers and sisters, are well-established in every Muslim family. On Al Jazeera, we have many documentary films about fathers raping their daughters, impregnating them, and getting children from their daughters in the Islamic world. We have massive evidence of sexual relationships between Muslim fathers and their daughters, even in India.

Most Muslim fathers married their virgin daughters since Allah asked them to take their daughters' virginity. So I strongly believed in the personal experience of Ethiopian Christian maids since we have documentary evidence from various mainstream media, such as Al Jazeera. As you all know, Al Jazeera strongly supports the Islamic ideology or way of life of its Muslims.

According to Tigray, Amhara, and Oromia maids in the Islamic world, Muslim women force them to sleep with their fathers, grandfathers, and husbands; otherwise, their sons and brothers would force them to sleep with them. Most Ethiopian Christian maids refuse to sleep with their Muslim masters since their religious faith and beliefs are quite opposite. There is a problem when they refuse to sleep with their Muslim masters. Muslim women start beating them, banning them from eating two meals; giving them 23 hours of physical work; cleaning huge houses; washing 100 people’s clothes by hand; preparing food; gardening; etc., making them suffer physically and mentally. They don’t even sleep an hour. When tired Ethiopian maids sleep, rape will take place forcefully by old-aged Muslim men or young-aged Muslim men inside their tiny rooms.

Most Ethiopian Christian maids told me that as long as they resist their lustful eyes, Muslim women force them to sleep in front of their unclean, smelly toilets, making maids sick or leading to serious health problems. They told me that most of the time they get pregnant without knowing who their father is since every male in the house rapes them. When they want to contact the Ethiopian Embassy in the Muslim world to inform them of the crimes that are committed by Muslim men and women upon them, then they make false complaints of stealing or religious abuse or blasphemy, or false cases to put them in jail.

Most of the time, Muslim women don’t pay salaries to their maids but make false police complaints against poor and innocent or most marginalized African maids to escape their meager salaries. Arab or Muslim states do protect their fellow Muslims by punishing African maids for their false cases [xv].

According to Ethiopian maids, they are facing crimes against humanity even from so-called human rights Muslims in the Arab world. They told me that one of the Muslim human rights lawyers used to abuse them sexually by threatening them that he would put them in an Arab jail under a stealing complaint. They told me that I should not go to any Muslim country which is known for crimes against humanity. Muslim women give only one meal a day, which is too little food for working 22 to 23 hours per day. They said even getting that little food depends on the mood of their Muslim women. They told me their monthly salaries are less than $75, and most of the time they don’t get it since their masters cheat them after working two or four years [xvi].

We know about the crimes of MENA against humanity, but the amazing part is that at least 100 million MENA or Arab people are citizens of the developed world who commit all these crimes against humanity. They are even human rights campaigners, employees of UNO, teachers of human rights, professors of western universities, or hold high political positions in the western world. Politically correct ideologies started praising Burqua women by saying that Burqua is beautiful. Burqua women are so cruel and criminal against African maids in their households, and only African or Ethiopian maids know the cruel face of Muslim women and men.

How many international human rights violations are violated by Arab men and women or Muslim women and men against African maids? Their way of life or ideology itself is a crime against humanity. Treating a fellow human being with sub-human status is a crime against the universal declaration of human rights, but the ground reality is that every developed citizen loves the burqa, or jihad, which is dehumanizing an African woman.

I was shocked when local Europeans started asking me if I was an Afghan, Syrian, or Arab. I asked them why they were asking me about Afghanistan, Syria, or MENA. They told me that they wanted to help if I was from Afghanistan, Syria, or MENA.

As I knew about how Indian expatriates sexually exploited local Ethiopian women and girls, impregnating them and leaving them to their fate, I knew the cruel face of the MENA region. Maids are humans. Africans are humans. Black Asians are humans.

I have been quoted by many scholars[xvii], researchers[xviii],[xix], [xx],[xxi]and media[xxii], [xxiii],[xxiv],[xxv],[xxvi],[xxvii]across the globe for my academic, professional, and extracurricular activities, but I and my family have become prey to these Arab Muslims and their loving local European folk in my current European country because of my dark-skinned color. They don’t treat humans as humans [xxviii] if you are a dark-skinned human being or African.

My brown-skinned Ethiopian wife, "Princess" Selamawit Hailu Bezabih, and my only baby boy, "Prince" Saviour, have become victims of the raw racism of airlifted Muslims and Europeans. No matter whether we are intellectuals or scholars or activists or writers or readers, if we are dark-skinned or African, we are worthless in the eyes of Muslims and Europeans, or the white world.

According to the Holy Bible, love is the most marginalized. Jesus always sides with the oppressed rather than the oppressor. Jesus is always in the company of the subaltern, not in the company of hegemony. The loving and caring philosophy of Black Jesus says that we should always stand with the most marginalized sections, but his followers are always in the company of their fellow racists and religious extremists.

Finally, people like me or Africans like Ethiopian maids are sand-witched by unbearable racism and religious extremism.
