Responsibilities of intellectuals- Dr.Suryaraju Mattimalla

Responsibilities of intellectuals- Dr.Suryaraju Mattimalla

I started reading literature from the ages of Socrates till Karl Marx to Michael Foucault till Antonia Gramsci till John Rawls to Noam Chomski to Slavoj Zizek to understand the intellectual tradition of the west.

I started watching their YouTube speeches apart from reading their literature. Their voices, writings, readings, thinking, analyzing, body language, facial expressions, dresses, seriousness, dedication, knowledge levels, memory, boldness, courage, honest, truth, commitment, and solidarity are entirely different from the so-called intellectual tradition of the eastern region, with special reference to the South Asian intellectual tradition.

Historically, Socrates never stood with the state or civil society. He became a scathing critic of existing civil society and its social corruption, for which he was killed by the state with the evidence of its repressive civil society. Socrates lost his life and family for the sake of revealing the truth about the deep-rooted social corruption of his society in his times. He invited death rather than relegating it to repressive civil society. He never thought to extend his long life or intended to enjoy a lavish life at the cost of truth. In his revelations about civil society and its genocidal ideologies, he never compromises with the truth. Finally, he never received state honors. He ended up dying at the very short age of his life. He demonstrated and became an icon of truth in his time, and he continues to be an agent of truth revelation to this day. He never died. There is no death in his name, spirit, form, ideology, courage, honest, dedication, or sacrifice for revealing the truth.

I am not going into his next generations since the list is so vast that I just wanted to jump into the 19th and 20th-century intellectual traditions of the west to uphold what Socrates believed and practiced in truth revelation.

Existing racist ideologies in the west of the Aryan race faced persecution based on its victim, Karl Marx. He fled many places to protect his and his family's lives. Finally, he ended up in poverty but never gave up the truth about the revelation against the bourgeoisie order. He never enjoyed lavish or state honors. He never stopped speaking, writing, reading, thinking, analyzing, and showing solidarity with the working masses in his time. He never stood by feudal ideologies.

Michael Foucault never hid his sexuality, despite the fact that European ideologies are conservative. He never compromises with the truth. He fought against power structures throughout his life. His gender identity made him a powerful theorist and ended up in his death. He never stopped reading, writing, thinking, speaking, and showing solidarity with the masses despite his health conditions. He died early. He never compromises with the revelation of the truth about brutal ideologies that use knowledge in order to control protestant ideologies. He explained how knowledge helped conservative ideologies to uphold power structures historically.

Antonia Gramsci ended up in prison cells and died of health issues. He never stopped speaking and writing against the fascist ideologies of his time. He used his lived experience with fascist regimes to build up a theory of organic intellectuals to fight bourgeoisie structures. He never enjoyed lavish or state honors.

John Rawls faced severe poverty, humiliation, loss of family members, etc., and wrote a grand theory of justice for billions of sub-subaltern communities. He never stopped speaking, reading, writing, and thinking against well-established repressive ideologies.

Slavoj Zizek never stops speaking, reading, writing, thinking, and analyzing our time's watertight ideologies. He is speaking and speaking and writing and writing against philosophies that are writing the happiest literature without any shame. His works are a scathing attack on conservative ideologies which are dehumanizing the masses.

Noam Chomski has been a living voice of the global exploited across time and space. He is speaking against brutal ideologies. He is a living legend of truth revelation against state-sponsored conservative frames.

Western intellectuals took on the responsibility of representing the most marginalized sections of the globe. They never see the skin of color, region, race, status, or identity, but oppression. They are world solidarity with the global oppressed. They never stop openly opposing repressive civil society or its state organs. They are fighting against civil society and the state, even at the cost of their lives. Julian Assange is the best example in our time of what a truth-speaking personality looks like.

These are the intellectual traditions of the west, which are fearlessly standing, writing, speaking, thinking, and advocating against civil society and its genocidal ideologies, of which the state and its organs are part and parcel.

Coming now to the intellectual tradition of the eastern regions, where so-called intellectuals, scholars, theorists, Nobel laureates, poets, critics, activists, award-winning authors, and writers have became part and parcel of fascist civil societies and totalitarian state structures. They may speak out against state or conservative ideologies here and there to demonstrate the existence of their Cambridge University Press published works, but in general, they are totalitarians.

I never come across any public intellectuals in India, Nepal, or Sri Lanka who stand with the untouchable caste masses or sexual minority genders in the past or present of our times. They are intellectuals who are heavily subsidized by the state which is sponsored by repressive civil society. For example, Indian civil society, Nepali civil society, and Sri Lankan civil society are notorious civil societies that promote the most lethal forms of brutal and genocidal ideologies in order to rape and kill India/south Asian's untouchable castes.

Where is the intellectual tradition of India at this time? They are all award-winning scholars, writers, theorists, booker prize winners, liberals, Marxists, feminists, postmodernists, Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press, Yale University Press, Nobel-produced intellectuals, theorists, scholars, and icons, but none of them are repressing truth revelation. They are all becoming icons of yoga, meditation, spirituality, and vegetarian ideologies. The Indian masses are afraid to see these pure theorists because their appearance threatens the Indian impure masses.

The Indian intellectual tradition ranging from Manu Dharma Shastra till our times, Ramachandra Guha, CSCS, CSSS, CSDS, JNU, and DU are agents of conservative, Aryan, pure, brown-skinned ideologies across time and space. They failed to represent the truth in revelation because of their historical caste background. Their clothes, food habits, identities, body language, names, facial expressions, languages, material life, lavish life, haircuts, shoes, ornaments, music, songs, eyes, hands, etc. are scaring untouchable castes of the Indian masses and transgender communities.

Historically, these so-called intellectual traditions of India have become modern Manuvadis or Ambedkarites to keep their Hindutva ideology alive through Hinduism or neo-Buddhism. Ambedkar was part of this pseudo-intellectual tradition to superimpose his Hindutva ideology through neo-Buddhist religion.

As a result, unlike the above Western intellectuals, the Indian intellectual tradition begged Nobel Prizes and Booker Prizes, and was published by CUP, OUP, Sage, EPW, or other world-renowned book publishing houses and journals, but failed to become agents of true revelation. Long live the eastern intellectual tradition.

Let me wind up by saying there is no intellectual tradition in Indian civil society but brown-skinned, white-masked intellectuals who are threatening the truth across time and space.

Long live the western intellectual tradition.
