Madam
Dakshayani Velayudhan – The First Untouchable Woman Graduate: Under the rule of British
colonial masters, the first Indian Dalit woman to graduate in B.Sc Chemistry
from a college in 1935 was Madam Dakshayani Velayudhan. She was not allowed
into the laboratory by Hindu teachers and, at last, Colonial Protestant
Christian Missionaries involved, but they failed to please their Brahmin
teachers. Finally, she passed her B.Sc with a second class degree. She was the
first untouchable woman to graduate in India with any degree.
