McIntosh Francis, 26, was the first Negro from St. Louis. He was burned alive in 1836, reported on by abolitionist editor Elijah Lovejoy, who was soon lynched himself. Lynching had broad local support, just like our George Stinney Jr in 1944 or George Floyd in 2020 or Sheila Adhiambo Lumumba or Donnell Rochester or Donovan Lewis or Tiffany Banks or Regina "Mya" Allen or Jagdish Chandra or Lakhimpur: India family shattered by rape and murder of Dalit sisters in 2022.
