Once, Manfred Nowak, the former United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture from 2004 to 2010, replied to my email saying that binary (mainstream genders) should represent non-binary (LGBTQ) groups. He even gave me a nonsensical example of how children can represent themselves if adults can not. How come a male and a female represent the LGBTQ community? How come a Hindu represents the Untouchable? How come a Muslim represents Yazidis? How come a male represents a female? How come men represent women? Why do male intellectuals represent females in knowledge production and policymaking? How come a non-disabled person represents the disabled? How come mainstream groups represent subaltern groups? How come subaltern groups represent sub-subaltern groups? The United Nations has failed to eradicate obnoxious practices such as casteism, untouchability, racism, and violence in third-world societies because they recruit from mainstream castes, religions, ethnic groups, religions, cultures, traditions, and genders. Sorry, we don't need your representation. We can represent ourselves. There is a historical bias in your representation. We are done with your politics of representing marginalized sections.
